A comprehensive uniform recap from the Georgia game

The streak is over. Florida sits at the throne of the SEC East after a thrashing of the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, ending a 4 year losing streak in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The Gators are now in the driver’s seat on their clear path to the SEC Championship game and their ultimate goal; the College Football Playoff. A resounding victory of 44–28 cemented the Gators status among the top teams in the nation. Uniform wise, the game again did not feature the famous color vs color matchups the series traditionally had from 2014–2016 and a few times in the 1960’s. With Florida the away team, the Gators went with the traditional away uniforms of O/W/B (for the first time this season), a look that hasn’t been worn against Georgia since 2010 (the PRIDE Pro Combat uniforms). The victory makes the record 5–1 against Georgia in O/W/B all-time. Here’s a full uniform recap from the game:

1. Gators break out traditional away uniforms for first time this season

Usually the staple away uniform for the Gators in recent history, Florida opted for O/W/O against Ole Miss and O/W/W against Texas A&M for the first 2 away games this season. Its surprising to say the least that it took this long for O/W/B to make an appearance but it was a welcome one.

The last time Florida wore true O/W/B vs Georgia? 14 years ago in 2006.

O/W/B is also widely successful during Mullen’s tenure; Florida is 5–0 in O/W/B under Dan Mullen.

Here’s all the wins in O/W/B under Mullen:

  • Tennessee 2018
  • FSU 2018
  • Michigan 2018
  • Missouri 2019
  • Georgia 2020

2. Florida-Georgia debuts new field

Saturday saw TIAA Bank Field with a new midfield logo, 25yd line logo, and endzones for the first time ever:

  • Florida-Georgia logo at midfield
  • SEC Logo at the 25yd lines
  • “Jacksonville” in the endzones.

This was one of the VERY rare times FL/GA was played the day immediately before a Jacksonville Jaguars game, thus the reason for “Jacksonville” in the endzones and the field not getting its usual makeover. This was also the 4th consecutive new field for the game:

  • 2019
  • 2018
  • 2017

Saturday’s game was also the first time since 1984 that “Florida” and “Georgia” were not used in the endzones. The 1984 game featured “Gator Bowl” as the stadium was known at the time.

3. “Respect Differences” warm-up shirts

For the 5th consecutive game, the Gators took the field in warm up shirts that showed support for ongoing racial and social discussions in the United States. This week, they sported black shirts with the slant-F logo above “RESPECT DIFFERENCES” and the player’s number underneath.

Accessories recap

  • Brad Stewart and Brenton Cox wore the throwback socks from the 2019/2020 throwback game
  • Trask wore a white wristband, once again breaking his color coordination from the first few games of the season
  • White gloves were the glove of choice for most of the team
  • Malik Davis,Kyle Pitts, Nayquan Wright, and Trevon Grimes wore blue gloves
  • Jaydon Hill and Dameon Pierce wore the black throwback cleats
  • Shawn Davis and Kyle Pitts wore blue sleeves
  • Kyle Pitts wore Nike cleats
  • LB James Houston IV appeared to be wearing a blue hoodie underneath his pads. He also wore blue sweatbands, an uncommon accessory under Mullen

Other uniform tidbits:

  • HC Dan Mullen wore his blue visor and polo making his record 2–1 in blue polos and 3–1 in blue visors

Florida faces its old quarterback, Feleipe Franks, next Saturday as the Arkansas Razorbacks come to The Swamp. Arkansas has moved to a 100% traditional look this season with only 2 uniforms (home and away) that mimic the Darren McFadden era. Florida is scheduled to wear orange jerseys this week so we should be in for treat. I’m sure some fans won’t like orange vs red helmets though…
