Every year, the Gators designate their top playmakers with one thing and one thing only: the #1 jersey. Since Head Coach Dan Mullen arrived in 2018, he clearly stated “you got to be a baller to wear #1.” Gator Greats such as Percy Harvin and Vernon Hargreaves have donned the number in the past. Now, Jacob Copeland gets to carry on the legacy in the 2021 season.

The senior WR previously wore #15 and served as a top weapon in the Gators high powered passing attack under Kyle Trask in 2020. Now, Copeland looks to be the main playmaker in a revamped offense in 2021.

With this change, Gators QB Anthony Richardson will change from #2 to #15, solidifying the nickname “AR15.”

Linebacker Brenton Cox Jr. will stay in the #1 jersey this season after wearing it during the 2020 season alongside Kadarious Toney.

Florida opens up the 2021 season against FAU on September 4th.
